Director Ram Gopal Varma had recently commented on the acting skills of the likes of Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, while stating that he does not know if Rajinikanth would exist "without slow motion". The Satya filmmaker questioned their acting despite their massive stardom and their "demigods" image. While promoting his upcoming film Saaree, Ram Gopal Varma spoke about his statements. Read on to know what he said.
Director Ram Gopal Varma is presenting the upcoming film Saaree, for which he wrote the screenplay. The film is set to release on April 4. Ahead of this, the director has been promoting the film. In one such instance, he was asked about his comment on Rajinikanth and his inability to exist “without slow motion.”
“I was talking about how the technological aspects of how it can influence an actor’s stardom. I took two examples, one of Charlie Chaplin who used to be in the 18-frame camera as opposed to the 24-frame one. I said if Charlie Chaplin came in 24-frame camera, he would have never become a star. Can you imagine in normal speed? Similarly, no one in the world can carry slow motion shots like Rajini sir. He could be an actor, and might have done a lot of stuff, but without the slow-motion camera, I don’t think he would have become a superstar,” he added.
The director also spoke about Amitabh Bachchan, and said, “I always make films on relatable subjects. I don’t look to work with heroes and heroines for the commercial or formulaic film. I worked with Amitabh Bachchan because he also works in a very realistic space. My primary thing is to make psychological thrillers, character study kind of films.”
Ram Gopal Varma worked with Amitabh Bachchan in films, namely Aag and Nishabd.
