Kannada actor Rishi is going all out to ensure that audiences turn up to see his next release, his first major theatrical outing since 2019’s Sarvajanikarige Suvarnavakaasha. Rishi’s film Ramana Avatara is one of three Kannada films hitting theatres on May 10 and while the actor has promised audiences a feel-good entertainer, he is also acutely aware of the dent a movie outing can make on a viewer’s pocket.
For ‘smaller’ films, the word-of-mouth publicity from the first few days in theatres matters a lot and Rishi is hopeful of giving Ramana Avatara a boost by bringing the film to audiences at a reduced price on Day 1. Perhaps buoyed by the enthusiastic response of audiences to the Rs 75 ticket rate on National Cinema Day, Ramana Avatara will begin its box office journey at Rs 99 per ticket. This flat rate will be applicable not only at single-screen halls, but multiplexes as well on May 10. The team is also looking at having a paid premiere on May 9, for which the ticket price has also been fixed at Rs 99. This offer is valid for one day only.
Ramana Avatara is a film that’s been in the making for a few years now. Directed by Vikas Pampapathi, it was initially meant to star Rishi, Danish Sait and Raj B Shetty, but by the time they got around to shooting it, only Rishi remained from the original cast plan. He was joined by Anirudh Acharya and Arun Sagar, while the leading ladies were Pranitha Subhash and Shubra Aiyappa.
Ramana Avatara has Rishi playing Rama Krishna, and while the initial plot synopsis that came out hinted at him being a do-gooder who tries to stop youngsters like him from migrating to the city by giving them opportunities back home, the trailer also hinted at it being a bit of a thriller, what with Pranitha’s character being abducted. Why she’s taken and what Rama does to get her back is what the film is about.
Rishi was among the few Kannada actors to get a direct-to-OTT release during the pandemic. His film, Nodi Swamy Ivanu Irode Heege came on Zee5, which you can watch on OTTplay Premium with the Simply South pack.
