The big news in Sandalwood circles on August 14, 2025, was that Kannada actor Darshan, who’d been enjoying freedom, while out on bail in the Renukaswamy murder case, was sent back to jail, after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail. The actor had been granted bail by the Karnataka High Court in December last year, which the state government challenged in the Supreme Court and got an order in its favour.

Ramya: Keep faith in the system

Actress Ramya, who has often posted updates about the case, especially in the matter of Darshan’s bail on her social media handles, reacted to the SC verdict, writing, “The SC Judgement today on setting aside bail to Darshan and others in the Renukaswamy murder case sends out a strong message – all are equal before law.”

She added that people ought to follow due process and keep faith in the system even it is a long and hard, because there is light at the end of the tunnel. “Do not take law into your own hands, justice will be served,” she added. The SC verdict came only days after Ramya was forced to seek police action against Darshan fans who’d unleashed a torrent of abusive messages on her social media pages for sharing updates about the bail case.

Ramya, who is no stranger to occasional trolling, was flabbergasted at the impunity with which the actor’s fans used the anonymity of the social media to post abusive, obscene and threatening messages. It made her wonder how this was any different from what the slain Renukaswamy was alleged to have done.

For the uninitiated, Renukaswamy, also a Darshan fan, allegedly sent obscene messages to Darshan’s partner of many years, Pavitra Gowda, urging her to stay out of the actor’s life. He was then lured to Bengaluru, where he was taken to a shed and tortured, leading to injuries that he eventually succumbed to. Darshan and Pavitra are alleged to have been at the shed when the torture was unleashed.
