You can hate it or like it, but you cannot ignore Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal, and that is how strongly the film has managed to penetrate the minds of the audience. The discourse surrounding Animal in pop culture in India is visible, and the criticism the movie received has, in turn, benefited the Ranbir Kapoor starrer in a way. While the world is discussing it and calling out the problematic things, no one from Bollywood has yet managed to voice their opinion if they are against what is portrayed in the film. Now, Saiyami Kher has come forward to voice her dislikes.

Animal, for the uninitiated, stars Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Tripti Dimri, Shakti Kapoor, and an ensemble cast. It is written and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who is right now busy defending his material. In various interviews, the filmmaker has gone on to call critics who disliked his film ‘illiterates’. Amid this, Ghoomer actor Saiyami Kher has said how she was triggered and disturbed after watching the film.

When asked about Animal, Saiyami Kher labelled Ranbir Kapoor the best the country has but also said how she would rather watch Rockstar and Barfi but will never revisit Animal, according to The Indian Express. “Personally, for me, I have been told very strongly do not tell your opinions because nobody wants to hear that. But I was very triggered, very disturbed. Every director has the right to make everything that he wants, but somewhere, you have a responsibility towards people. Cinema has the power to influence people, and I truly believe that, in the good and in the bad way,” the Ghoomer star said, according to The Indian Express.

“I personally don’t agree with the phenomenon of glorifying somebody who is a dark and bad character. With great power comes great responsibility, so I would consider that when working,” she added.

The massive box office storm that Animal caused left Saiyami Kher confused and worried. “I was a little confused because if this is what the country is watching, then where do I stand in this? It is not just men; it is women who are loving the film as well. He is a very talented filmmaker because he has held your attention. But I was not a big fan of the way a lot of things were shown. I am not the biggest fan of that kind of cinema,” she added.
