Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji have been very close friends since decades. Apart from their blockbuster collaborations like - Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Chalte Chalte (2003), Veer-Zaara (2004), Paheli (2005), and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (2006), the duo’s personal connection has been one of the most iconic friendships in the Indian film industry. Hence, fans were eagerly waiting for Mukerji’s reaction to Pathaan's (2023) massive success for a long time.
SRK’s Pathaan was backed by none other than Yash Raj Films (YRF), which is owned by Aditya Chopra, the husband of Rani Mukerji. Chopra and Mukherji tied the knot in 2014, at a private Bengali ceremony in Italy, after rumours of their dating took the whole B-Town by storm. Nevertheless, recently the 45-year-old actress opened up and spilled the beans about Pathaan's massive success. According to her statement, we can assume that the action-thriller was the lucky mascot for YRF, after the heinous Covid pandemic.
While speaking at the FICCI Frames event, Mukerji talked about the horrific time Bollywood went through in those two years. This situation literally broke Aditya Chopra’s confidence. But despite all these, he stood up and took the huge initiative of making an action genre with none other than Shah Rukh Khan, who has never done any action before, until Pathaan.
Rani Mukerji further revealed that Aditya Chopra had a few more big projects in YRF, but he believed in SRK, and no wonder, it became a massive blockbuster last year. Collecting over ₹1000 crore at the box office, Pathaan became the second highest grossing film of 2023, after SRK’s another venture, Jawan.
Mukerji revealed that during the pandemic there was a lot of pressure to release films on OTT platforms, hence, despite being one of the biggest production companies in the Indian film industry, YRF and Aditya Chopra were quite nervous about it. Rani shared that when she used to see her husband under severe stress, it bothered her a lot. According to the Mardaani actress, Pathaan became the lucky mascot for YRF. The film literally changed the fate of the production house, Chopra and the people who work with them.
Rani ended up revealing that no one can ever be the happiest like her, after Pathaan’s success. She is immensely grateful to her best friend Shah Rukh Khan and all the people who have given their best for the film.
YRF’s upcoming biggest project is War 2, which stars Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and South star Jr. NTR. This is the first ever collaboration between YRF and NTR, and fans across the nation are pretty excited for the sequel’s release.
