A few days ago, when videos of Dhurandhar actor Ranveer Singh at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of Goa surfaced, one in particular went on to create quite the controversy. Praising actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty for his performance in the recent Kantara Chapter 1, Ranveer went on to do his version of the daiva possession and primordial scream, which came under fire, as he referred to Chavundi daiva as a female ghost.

Netizens, not only from Tulunadu where daiva aaradhane is prevalent, took to social media to condemn this ‘insult’, following which Ranveer issued an apology, clarifying that he did not intend to hurt sentiments. At the time of the event, though, several netizens also pointed out that Rishab did not react to Ranveer’s ‘mimicry’, despite often asking fans not to recreate moments from the film. In fact, in the video that came out initially, Rishab is seen laughing after Ranveer’s act, which had also irked netizens.
Since then, though, other videos from the event, right before Ranveer went up on stage, surfaced, in which the actor is seen doing the same facial expressions he repeated later on, when he greeted Rishab, with the Kantara Chapter 1 filmmaker actor politely asking him not to do so. Only moments later, though, Rishab’s worst nightmare came true and Ranveer did just that.
Ranveer’s ‘performance’ therefore, does not seem as unintentional as is being made out now, reckon netizens, some of who add that Rishab should have gone on stage and interrupted him. It is unlikely that the Kantara actor was expecting an encore from Ranveer, especially since he’d already told him not to mimic the daivas.
