Veteran actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan made his Tamil debut with T Rajendar's Monisha En Monalisa more than two decades ago. After taking a long hiatus from Kollywood, he was seen in Sangathamizhan with Vijay Sethupathi a few years ago. He has now signed another Tamil project, Shooting Star, which has MJ Ramanan at its helm.

Interestingly, actor Dushyanth, the grandson of Sivaji Ganesan, who had acted in a couple of films one-and-a-half decade ago, too, is returning with this project. Masoom Shankar is another actor who will be seen essaying a crucial character in the movie.

Vivek Prasanna and Srinivas Reddy are other actors in the film which is set to go on floors in Mumbai in June. Billed as a dark comedy, the movie's story, according to the makers, revolves around how its protagonist achieves something unique in life despite others trying to pull him down.

As per an article in TOI, Ramanan was keen on doing the film with Ayushmann Khurrana, but he decided to do it in Tamil because of a few reasons. He had plans to team up with Dushyanth a decade ago, but they could join hands only now.

Ravi Kishan essays a film producer in the movie named Ram Gopal Varma. Ramanan said that he had obtained permission from the maverick filmmaker before going ahead with the decision. Srinivasa Reddy will play a director in Shooting Star which will have portions set against the backdrop of the film industry.

The movie which will have some portions shot in Khajuraho has SR Satish Kumar handling cinematography while Amjad-Nadeem-Aamir have been roped in to score the music. Chetan Pathak has come on board as the art director of the project. The movie was launched at Chennai on Friday at an event which had Parthiban as the chief guest.
