Holiday films around Christmas almost always centre on Santa Claus, if it is not a soppy love story that is. There’s always some conflict that could prevent Santa from doing his duties and ushering in a happy and peaceful Christmas season. This time around, the man itself is missing. He’s been kidnapped and the North Pole Command Centre is sending out a team to find him and bring him back in time for the festival. That’s Red One for you, the newest holiday film headed your way, which, interestingly, has a star-studded cast on board.
For starters, there’s Oscar winner JK Simmons as Santa, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Bonny Hunt, Nick Kroll, Kiernan Shipka, and Kristofer Hivju, among others, in this tale. Johnson is Callum Drift, the head of security at the North Pole, under whose watch Santa has been abducted. To get this prized target back, he has to team up with a bounty hunter called Jack O’Malley, who is on Santa’s Naughty List 4. How the duo go about finding out the mysterious person behind the abduction and saving the day forms the rest of the narrative.
The action-adventure comedy, directed by Jake Kasdan, who made Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Leve with Johnson, is set to release in the US on November 15, with a worldwide roll-out thereafter.
The film was supposed to be in theatres for Christmas 2023, but had to be pushed ahead owing to the union strikes, although, it has also been reported that Johnson was responsible for the delay. It has been reported that the actor would be late to the set, and not by a few minutes but hours together, which, over time, ensured that the budget blew up to USD 250 million.
