The success of Rekhachithram has proven to be a great fillip for its director Jofin T Chacko, to take on more such ambitious projects. His latest movie, which had Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan in the lead, has already completed 50 days in theatres and is all set to begin streaming on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium from March 7.
But Jofin has already moved on to his next projects. The filmmaker in a recent interview talked about his two upcoming movies, after the success of Mammootty’s Priest and Rekhachithram.
In an interview with Manorama News, the director said that he is working on two projects next. “I am planning a movie with Bobby and Sanjay . Also, like Rekhachithram, I have another project in mind that will need multiple NOCs,” he said, adding that the latter will also be scripted by Ramu Sunil, who has co-written the Asif Ali-starrer.
The NOCs, he was referring to, were in relation to the main challenge he faced before making Rekhachithram, which needed permissions from several people as it dealt with alternate history. The movie revolves around an investigation of a police officer about a missing woman, who was last seen on the sets of Mammootty and Bharathan’s Kathodu Kaathoram in the late 1980s.
Using the yesteryear movie as the backdrop, Jofin weaved an investigative thriller, which also served as a love letter to cinema, with several characters including Mammootty, Bharathan, John Paul and Jagadeesh appearing as themselves. Mammootty’s character in the 80s was created using artificial intelligence.
The film, which also has Manoj K Jayan, Zarin Shihab, Siddique and Saikumar, is set to begin streaming on Sony LIV in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. The movie has already grossed over Rs 50 Cr globally.
