Rudra Garuda Purana, which was billed as actor Rishi’s return to the uniform after Kavaludaari, released in theatres in January this year and is yet make its way to OTT, although, sources revealed to OTTplay that it had been acquired by JioHotstar. A Hindi-dubbed version of the film is, however, is now available to stream. As of July 30, 2025, the Hindi version of director KS Nandeesh’s Rudra Garuda Purana is streaming on Ultra Play.
Rudra Garuda Purana was Rishi’s first Kannada release of the year, and, so far, the only one. He was also seen as an antagonist in Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaj and has announced Mangalapuram as his next in Kannada. The film was initially meant to release in theatres around Christmas 2024, but was pushed ahead by a month, after Kiccha Sudeep’s Max took up the festive release spot.
What's Rudra Garuda Purana about?
The film has Rishi as Inspector Rudra, who is assigned with investigating the mysterious disappearance of the local MLA’s son; last seen boarding a bus with his girlfriend. Inspector Rudra’s investigation throws up information about the bus; that it is a route that was discontinued a quarter of a century ago, following a tragic incident. How is it, then, that the youngster was seen on this particular bus? That’s the mystery that Rudra has to get to the bottom of.
Produced by Ashwini Arts, Rudra Garuda Purana also stars Priyanka Kumar, Giri Shivanna, Vinod Alva, Avinash, Shivaraj KR Pete, KS Sridhar, Snake Shyam, Gautham Mysuru, Ram Pavan, among others. The film has music by Krishna Prasad and cinematography by Sandeep Kumar.
Rishi’s next, Mangalapuram, which also stars Abhimanyu Kashinath, is being made by a Tulu director, Ranjit Raj Suvarna and will explore the culture of daiva aaradhane found in the region. The world got a glimpse of it in the superhit film Kantara. Given that filmmakers from the coastal region are often able to gauge the pulse of the audience, like, for instance, the recent success of JP Thuminad’s Su From So, it should give Rishi hope of a winner.
