The MX Player original series Sabka Sai is slated for an OTT release on the streaming platform on August 26. It will be available for free viewing. Raj Arjun, who is a familiar face in television and has been part of the cast of Secret Superstar, Thalaivi, Raees Rathore, will play the eponymous protagonist, the spiritual figure Sai Baba of Shirdi. The series also features Mohammad Samad, Rohit Phalke, Aakash Sinha, Devika Daftardar, Asheesh Kapur, Gulki Joshi and Rajendra Shisatkar.

Helmed by Ajit Bhairavkar, the series evidently takes up a spiritual subject with Sai Baba’s life unfolding in the series. The 10-episode series is touted to take the viewers through his liberal convictions and views on the social evils of widow remarriage as well as inter-faith marriages.

The trailer that dropped on the official YouTube channel on August 17, chronicles the life of philanthropy and selfless humanitarian efforts that the Sufi ‘Fakir’ Sai Baba espoused in his life. The period drama is set in the times of the British raj.

MX Player had shared the trailer on the Instagram handle, sharing “Jiska koi nahi hota, uska Sai hota hai #SabkaSai.”

The director Ajit Bhairavkar has confessed to the Indian Express of being a devotee of Sai Baba as a child and that he intends to explore the ‘phenomenon of his huge following from people of all faiths’. One will also get to see the director’s account of the lesser-known stories and the obstacles that the spiritual guru encountered in his life.

The song from the series titled Maula, sung by Divya Kumar was released a week ago, crooning about social equality and that God is one.

However, Twitter users are divided on the series, on the debate between superstition, religion and science and the whole concept of godmen and religious gurus who trick the unsuspecting, gullible masses in the name of religion for their vested interests.

Along with Hindi, Sabka Sai will be available in Tamil and Telugu too.
