Sachein 4K re-release: Thalapathy Vijay-Genelia D’Souza film to hit the theatres again on THIS date?

Thalapathy Vijay, the biggest crowd-puller of Tamil cinema, is well-known for his action-packed entertainers. However, the popular star started his career with the boy-next-door, romantic hero roles. Sachein, the 2005-released romantic comedy film directed by John, remains one of the favourite romantic comedies of Tamil audiences, even after two decades after its release. Interestingly, Sachein, which marked Thalapathy Vijay’s first collaboration with Genelia D’Souza, is now gearing up for a grand re-release.

Sachein 4K gets a re-release date

In a recent interview with a leading Tamil media, Kalaipuli S Thanu, the senior producer who bankrolled Sachein, made an exciting announcement on the film’s re-release date. The 4K conversion process of the Thalapathy Vijay starrer has been progressing in full swing. The makers are planning to re-release the John directorial on April 11, 2025, on the special occasion of the film’s 20th release anniversary. The new update has left the Vijay fans and Tamil cine-goers highly excited.

Thalapathy Vijay’s Sachein on OTT

If you wish to revisit Sachein before its grand 4K re-release, Thalapathy Vijay and Genelia D’Souza’s celebrated romantic comedy is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, in Tamil. The Hindi-dubbed version of the much-loved film, which has been titled Ghamandee, has been streaming on Jio Cinema. It can also be watched on OTT Play Premium.

Sachein: Plot, cast and crew

The movie, directed by John, revolves around the unique love story of Sachein and Shalini, a girl whom he meets at Ooty. Sachein decides to woo Shalini in a different way after realising that she is a rich, spoilt brat who is chased by most of the young men in their college. Thalapathy Vijay played the titular character Sachein in the film, which stars Genelia D’Souza in the role of his lady love, Shalini (popular actress Kaniha dubbed for the leading lady).

Along with Thalapathy Vijay and Genelia D’Souza, Sachein features a massive star cast including Vadivelu, Bipasha Basu, Santhanam, Raghuvaran, Thalaivasal Vijay, Chaams, Mohan Sharma, and others in the pivotal roles. Devi Sri Prasad composed songs and the original score for the film. Jeeva and VT Vijayan handled the cinematography and editing, respectively. Sachein is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, under the banner V Creations.
