Taro Sakamoto is the legendary hitman you do not want to mess with. Every guy on the block feared him, until one day he fell in love with a woman at the convenience store, married her, and settled into family life. But, Sakamoto proves he still has it and will get back in action if required.
Sakamoto Days is one of those anime that pulls you into its world with slow-mo to rapid action. There's suspense in each movement - with the focus shifting from footwork to gun-holding to determined eyes. You know the man is not here to play.
An instant bomb blast in the distance with many men in suits trying to hunt one man down sets the tone for the gangster drama. Not only does our hitman dodge every bullet, but he attacks and kills at the speed of the very bullet.
Taro Sakamoto feared among men, fell prey to the one thing no man has been spared of - love. He fell in love with a convenience store owner and his world shattered, literally. Getting married to the love of his life, Sakamoto retired as the front hitman. He had a son and turned chubby after settling into family life.
The theme song for the anime is also one that instantly pulls you in. Not just Sakamoto, we get glimpses of his right hand, Shin as well. This leaves you intrigued about what is to come.
And as expected, Shin's introduction itself will have you burst into laughter. Being able to read minds, he can understand how Sakamoto has a violent side but only in his thoughts. In one episode itself, Sakamoto threatens to kill Shin twice.
The legendary retired hitman is so happy helping the neighborhood out because of his efficient skills, but Shin cannot stand seeing him like that. Nonetheless, after some troubles, he vouches to stay by his idol's side to the very end and does so (but with an ulterior motive, of course).
Sakamoto in action is something you cannot and don't wish to miss out on. He also lives a dual life, making his story one worth watching. And you know things are about to go down when chopsticks become your weapon.
The episode ends on a cute note. Sakamoto is literally the definition of 'looks cute can kill,' and it works perfectly for the storyline.
Sakamoto Days gets the perfect introduction. It goes back and forth between cute and deadly, and the balance between fun family time and serious action is what makes this episode and the series so special. Definitely a great start.
