The wait might have gotten excruciatingly long but Hombale Films and Prashanth Neel look determined to bring Salaar to us in 2023, at any possible cost. Having deferred on the release date a couple of times already, the makers of the Prabhas starrer have announced that December 22, 2023, will be the D-Day after all, with several fans now keeping their fingers crossed hoping there won't be any more delays.

But the demand for more updates in the run-up to the release remains as intense as ever and now, many believe that there's something exciting in store on the occasion of Prithviraj Sukumaran's birthday. Prithviraj, who turns 40 today, October 16, plays a super important character in Salaar called Varadharaja Mannaar whose first look was unveiled on this very day a year ago. Thereby, social media is currently abuzz with speculations that Hombale Films has a new update to offer and many posts suggest that it could be a new 'look' poster from the film. The production house, though, has not hinted at this possibility but one does wish to see hope prevailing ultimately.

Prithviraj's look in Salaar did draw encouraging responses from the audience who praised the "mystique" that's built around him with the help of accessories and the colour palette. Varadharaja Mannaar's role in the mega world conceived and created by Prashanth Neel & Co. is yet unclear but the filmmaker has spoken of the value that a performer like Prithviraj brings to the table. Fans are looking forward to seeing him sharing the screen with Prabhas in the film.

The Empuraan actor has previously distributed the Malayalam version of KGF: Chapter 2 in Kerala and has since then strengthened his relationship with Hombale Films through Tyson, a Malayalam film that he will direct for the production house.

Salaar, though, might end up facing off against Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki, which stars Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu in the lead. While both films seem set on December 22, 2023, there have been a few speculations of late that team Dunki might actually pick a different date to avoid the epic clash. However, the latest reports suggest the contrary and that both films, as of now, are scheduled for a same-day release later this year. And should that happen after all, it might prove to be one of the biggest box-office combats of recent times.

Shah Rukh Khan, as many would already know, is currently in a red hot form with two giant blockbusters to his name in the form of Pathaan and Jawan. Whereas Prabhas, on the other hand, is looking for that one thumping success to mark his return following three back-to-back underwhelming films.
