A section of 'lovers' started an internet debate over which is a better Bollywood heartbreak film - Sanam Teri Kasam or Tere Naam. While we wouldn't involve ourselves with the debate on their behalf, the current box office numbers, especially with Sanam Teri Kasam's re-release, suggest a clear winner.

Sanam Teri Kasam is now a superhit on day 11, after earning over Rs. 36 crore (according to a report on Pinkvilla) over and above its original box office collection of Rs. 9 crore, and the film is still running in theatres. Mounted on a budget of Rs. 18 crore, Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane's Sanam Teri Kasam has earned its double, thus giving the movie a superhit status in its re-release.

Back when Salman Khan and Bhoomika Chawla's Tere Naam released, it was a hit but just barely. The film was made on a budget of Rs. 12 crore and earned Rs. 15 crore. Thus, it was barely a hit at the boxoffice too. Of course, if Tere Naam were to re-release in theatres, it would also create a storm, but for now, Sanam Teri Kasam is winning when it comes to the box office run.

Where did the comparison between Sanam Teri Kasam and Tere Naam start?

Sanam Teri Kasam is a film about an unrequited, unconditional love. It is a concept that closely touches the hearts of modern Indians. The movie appeals to both men and women because of the story. Tere Naam also has a similar story and is more relatable to men, since the character of Radhe feels driven to an edge, to the extent that he is seen in a mental asylum missing his lover. This is a feeling most "alpha Indian males" relate to and thus, Tere Naam also has a huge appeal among Indians (since most of the population consists of men). Owing to that, the debate of Sanam Teri Kasam vs Tere Naam commenced, and continues.
