It was earlier last year that Sarath Kumar's Irai went on floors under Rajesh M Selva's direction. Tipped as a web series, the project marks the veteran actor's debut in the digital space. The shooting of the crime thriller, which is said to be based on the book, Birds of Prey, written by Archana Sarat, has been happening in Chennai.

Radikaa Sarath Kumar has been bankrolling the project under her banner Radaan Mediaworks. The senior actress had announced her decision to quit television an year ago on social media. Many had then speculated that she would also take a plunge into politics like Sarath.

Looks like Irai will be the first project to premiere on the Tamil version of the digital platform Aha which is already a big hit among Telugu audience. It is expected that the Tamil platform will be launched soon; an official announcement on the same is expected any time from now.

Ghibran was roped in to compose music for the web series while Yuvaraj and San Lokesh were brought on board to handle cinematography and editing respectively. Stunt Silva, who made his directorial debut recently with Chithirai Sevvaanam (streaming on Zee5), has choreographed action sequences for the project.

Sarath was recently seen in the Telugu web series Parampara (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar), while Rajesh's last outing was Vikram-starrer Kadaram Kondan (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) which was bankrolled by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International.

The senior actor-cum-politician will next be seen playing the character Periya Pazhuvettarayar in the much-awaited Ponniyin Selvan which is being made by maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam. Om Vijay's Pirandhal Parasakthi is another expected movie of his in which he is sharing screen space with Radikaa and Varalaxmi.
