One among the three releases Karthi had last year was PS Mithran's Sardar. The spy thriller, which hit the screens as a Deepavali release, went on to be a successful venture. It clashed with Sivakarthikeyan's Prince and emerged as the winner at the box office.

Karthi's dual roles, background score by GV Prakash, a few thrilling sequences and research done by the makers on the global politics involving water were highlights of the film. The movie's climax culminated by hinting at a sequel to it. It revolves around a cop who sets out to find his father, who was branded a traitor by the government.

We now hear that Yuvan Shankar Raja will be roped in to compose music for Sardar 2. An official announcement on the project's status and the musician's inclusion are expected to be announced later. The reason for GV Prakash's replacement is still unknown.

Naan Mahaan Alla, Paruthiveeran, Biriyani and Viruman are previous films of Karthi which had music by Yuvan. Laila, Raashi Khanna, Munishkanth and Chunky Panday among others played notable roles in Sardar. George C Williams and Ruben handled cinematography and editing respectively for the movie.

Karthi, who has had Ponniyin Selvan 2 this year, is awaiting the release of Japan which is likely to hit the screens in a few months. He is now busy with Nalan Kumarasamy's untitled project. 96 fame Premkumar announced recently that the actor will play one of the lead roles in his forthcoming movie.

The most-anticipated sequel of Kaithi, Kaithi 2, is another film he has in his kitty. It was supposed to begin after Lokesh completes Leo, but it looks like the movie will take some time to go on floors.
