Mathi Maaran’s directorial debut, Selfie, starring GV Prakash and Gautham Menon is set to hit theatres today. Talking about his role, GV Prakash has said that he learnt the Cuddalore slang for the movie.
Talking to Times of India, the musician-actor said, “He (Mathi Maaran) told me my character is from Cuddalore and that I should learn the slang. That sort of sparked my interest in the film. We’ve seen so many slangs being used in Tamil cinema, like Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai... but this was different (sic).”
The actor added that the director and his assistant are from Cuddalore and they taught him the diction and body language and so preparing for the role gave him “a rush”.
Talking about the movie, Prakash said that when he was given the script for the movie, it reminded him of The Wolf of Wall Street. While he clarifies there are no similarities to the Martin Scorsese film, the portions of the broker gave him the same vibes.
Selfie revolves around the college admission ring and how people and students make profits out of it. The director had earlier revealed that he got the idea for the mov ie after a former student shared their story about being a broker.
While Prakash appears as a college student, the movie also stars Gautham Menon who plays the antagonist while Varsha Bollamma plays the female lead. Produced by D Sabareesh under the DG Film Company, the movie hits theaters on April 1.
