Tamil movie buffs were really surprised when Selvaraghavan and team went ahead with their decision to release Naane Varuvean along with Mani Ratnam's much-expected film Ponniyin Selvan. Though the Dhanush-starrer had decent expectations among cinephiles, many raised eyebrows, thanks to their confidence in clashing with the big-budget entertainer.
Naane Varuvean brought Selva and Dhanush after more than a decade's hiatus, and its promo videos featuring Yuvan Shankar Raja's music were intriguing. However, the movie opened to mixed reviews from critics, and ended up as a below average fare at the box office.
Selva has now surprised one and all with his tweet on Ponniyin Selvan. The veteran filmmaker says that the music in the Mani Ratnam movie is the best he has ever listened to. All praise for AR Rahman, he said that "the attention to detail in even the minutest sounds is astounding".
Film lovers are wondering the reason behind his tweet on the movie after almost a month post its theatrical release. Some of his fans criticized him for releasing Naane Varuvean along with the biggest Tamil hit of 2022, while a few others said that Rahman has come up with better works in the past.
Selva is now ready with Bakasuran in which he will play the lead. The director made his acting debut this year with Saani Kaayidham, but it was Beast which first hit the screens. Bakasuran has been helmed by Mohan G who courted controversy with his last outings, Draupadi and Rudra Thandavam.
Meanwhile, Naane Varuvean is set for a digital premiere tomorrow. The movie will drop on Amazon Prime Video. Yuvan's music and Dhanush's performance are two major positive factors in the psychological thriller which fell short of expectations.
