Shashank Khaitan is right now busy shaping his next Dharma movie Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor. For years, the filmmaker has been surrounded with rumours around his Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania franchise, and every time there are speculations about him getting on board something, fans pray for it to be the third film in the franchise starring Varun and Alia Bhatt. However, the filmmaker is in no mood to return to the franchise so soon because now he has already figured out what he wants to do next, and reports say that he is working on a Netflix show titled Single Papa that stars Kunal Kemmu in the lead.
Kunal Kemmu In Shashank Khaitan’s Netflix Show?
Kunal Kemmu made buzz in 2024 for his much-loved directorial debut Madgaon Express. The actor-filmmaker, however, is now back in news but for a Netflix series being shaped by Shashank Khaitan for the streaming giant. This will be Shashank’s entry to long-format content, and for that, he has chosen a subject like Single Papa. Read on to know everything about the same.
“Shashank has developed a subject titled Single Papa and believes the family entertainer has scope to be a perfect sitcom for viewers at home. He has partnered with Netflix for Single Papa and is excited to take it on floors in Summer 2025, after the release of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari,” revealed a source close to the development, as per Pinkvilla.
While Kunal Kemmu is leading Single Papa, the source also confirms that the casting for the show is underway. The filmmaker is putting together a big ensemble, and the idea is to gather talents with a certain comic timing. While there are no details about the plot, the title Single Papa suggests it’s about a single father’s journey through fatherhood.
The source added, “It’s a slice-of-life web series made for the family audience, and Shashank has roped in Kunal Kemmu to play the titular role of Single Papa. Apart from Kunal, a big ensemble is being assembled, and the idea is to cast talents with significant comic timing. A full-fledged announcement of the show will be made once the entire cast is on board.”
Meanwhile, it is also being said that Shashank Khaitan is developing another movie for the big screen and wants to make it with young actors. “It’s a subject on the lines of Pyaar Ka Punchnama, and Shashank is passionately developing it for the cinematic medium. It will be a home production for the filmmaker,” the source concluded.
