Plot of Shesh Pata

The film explores the intersecting stories of three individuals, while their arcs are centred around the protagonist's, Balmiki Sengupta’s, miserable life. He was a renowned Bengali writer, known for his unconventional and passionate views. He had a beautiful actress for a wife as well. But all that was 20 years ago. Now Balmiki Sengupta is knee deep in debt, scourge, grief, and penury.

A year ago, a publishing house had given him an advance of ₹40,000 to write about his murdered wife, whose body was found naked. But he does not write it. He keeps on giving excuses until the production sends a debt collector agent, Sounak, to collect the writing. After meeting Balmiki, Sounak decides to offer a serene, smart woman named Medha as a ghostwriter to aid with the issue of his hand ache or constant ‘haate betha’.

As Medha and Balmiki become fast friends despite the latter’s pain, moodiness, and long rants, Sounak struggles to make ends meet at home while holding his seven-year-long relationship with struggling painter Deepa in place. A sincere portrayal and analysis of the shades of grief, hopelessness, and human struggles, Shesh Pata might be the perfect bittersweet yet thoughtful end to a tough day at work.
