The makers of SP Jhananathan's Laabam, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in lead roles, had announced recently that the film will have a theatrical release on September 9, thus putting speculation on its OTT premiere to rest. On Friday evening, the team released a video song, Clara My Name Is Clara, which has Shruti shaking a leg to a peppy song composed by D Imman.

The song begins with the actress, who plays a celebrity in the film, introduced as 'All in All Azhagarasi', 'Instagram Angel' and 'Facebook beauty'. She is termed Ulaganayaki and is compared to Jennifer Lopez as well before she makes a grand entry on a stage.

The actress, who plays Clara in the movie, is then seen dancing with several others on stage, much to the delight of the huge crowd gathered to get a glimpse of her. The vibrant song, which has Shruti performing some bharatanatyam movements, too, has lyrics by Yugabharathi and sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, along with Kalakka Povathu Yaaru fame Naveen. Laabam is the first Tamil film to hit screens in Tamil Nadu after theatres in the state were shut down for more than four months owing to the lockdown as a result of the second wave of COVID-19.

The movie's director Jhananathan had passed away earlier this year even as the post-production was going on in full swing. His last outing, Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai in 2015, too, had Vijay Sethupathi playing the lead, along with Arya, Karthika and Shaam. Laabam, which has Sethupathi playing a social activist, features Sai Dhanshika, Ramesh Thilak, Kalaiyarasan and Daniel Annie Pope, too, essaying pivotal roles in it. Jagapathi Babu, who essays the role of a ruthless businessman, is the movie's antagonist. Nitish Veera, who will be seen in an important role in the movie, had succumbed to COVID-19 a few months ago.
