Maanaadu, which released on November 25, is considered as the comeback vehicle of both Silambarasan and director Venkat Prabhu unanimously by film buffs and critics alike. The political thriller, which released amid various uncertainties, has been attracting movie buffs across Tamil Nadu despite heaving rains lashing the state for a few weeks.

On the previous day of the film's release, producer Suresh Kamatchi's announcement on the project's postponement for the second time had left movie lovers and fans of Silambarasan shattered. However, things were sorted out in a few hours' time though the movie's early morning shows were cancelled.

The screening of Maanaadu began around 8 am across the state and opened to extremely positive reviews. The performances of Silambarasan and SJ Suryah, Praveen KL's editing, Yuvan Shankar Raja's background score and racy screenplay by Venkat Prabhu earned praises from one and all.

Interestingly, many cinephiles raised doubts on naming the antagonist's character played by Suryah as Dhanushkodi. That Silambarasan and Dhanush were rivals at the box office is a known thing. A dialogue in Silambarasan's previous outing, Eeswaran, goes Nee azhika vandha Asuran na, naa kaaka vandha Eeswaran da (If you are the destroyer Asuran, I'm the protector Eeswaran).

However, Silambarasan rubbished the rumours that naming Dhanushkodi as the villain's name in Maanaadu was done purposefully, and added that it was a coincidence. While speaking to media, he said, "These are all baseless speculation. It was the director who named all the characters. For now, we are happy with the response of the movie."

He also thanked the audience for coming out and watching the film despite heavy rainfalls disrupting people's lives. "We are happy that all our efforts have yielded good results," he added. Later, the team posted a video which was posted from Venkat Prabhu's Twitter account, thanking the viewers.
