The recently released trailer of Manoj Bajpayee's upcoming film titled Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai has been grabbing a lot of eyeballs. By the looks of it, the actor has once again picked a compelling narrative to showcase his acting prowess, this time as a lawyer.

The film is said to be inspired by true events. One look at the trailer is enough for you to conclude that it is based on the case of self styled godman Asaram Bapu who was convicted in the rape case of a minor. Bajpayee plays the character of PC Solanki - the lawyer who won the case against Asaram for the minor.

Apparently, the trailer of the film irked Asaram who sent a legal notice to the makers through his charitable trust. The self-styled godman has sought "prohibitory orders against the promotion and release of the film", as reported by ETimes.

The report also states that Asaram's lawyers have claimed that the Manoj Bajpayee starrer is highly objectionable and defamatory towards the godman. It could further "hit the sentiments of his devotees" and could potentially "tarnish his reputation."

While speaking to IndiaToday, Manoj Bajpayee stated that the court verdict on the Asaram Bapu case is out. He further explained that there's nothing above the law and the court and in this case there has been a judgment and punishment decided by the High Court.

"So, once that is proved in the court of law, how can we be responsible for telling the story?," the actor was quoted as saying by the publication. He also said that they've only made a film on the subject and that there's no change made from their side.

Bajpayee further added that a few incidents have been taken from outside as well and gave the example that the names used in the film have been altered, except for that of the lawyer PC Solanki. He shared that the lawyer's name was retained because he agreed to it but all the other names used in the film are fictional since they refrained from using the original names.

The actor explained that the intent behind taking inspiration from true incidents was to ensure that the film's message is "loud and clear." He was quoted as saying by IndiaToday, "At the centre of it, there is a minor girl, and we are talking about her safety and security. The intention is right."

Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai chronicles the story of an ordinary sessions court lawyer, who persistently fought for five years in order to get justice for a minor girl who was sexually assaulted by a godman. The courtroom drama is headlined by Bajpayee and is all set to release on Zee5 on May 23, 2023.
