The makers of Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Doctor had recently announced that the much-awaited film will hit the screens on October 9, putting speculation regarding its OTT premiere to rest. The news was lapped up instantly by the star's fans and movie buffs alike, apart from exhibitors who have pinned high hopes on the project, as they believe the movie has ample potential to bring back family crowd to movie halls.
The film, which is Nelson Dilipkumar's sophomore directorial project, was initially supposed to hit the screens on March 26, 2021, but the makers postponed the release to a later date. However, the second wave of COVID-19 poured cold water on their plans. There were also speculation about Doctor premiering on Disney+ Hotstar.
The industry insiders believe that the film's theatrical release announcement has given the much needed boost for Kollywood. As if this isn't enough, the makers have announced that the movie will have a simultaneous release in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as well with the title Varun Doctor. It is said that the film will be releasing in reasonable number of theatres. This is for the first time that Sivakarthikeyan's film is having a dubbed Telugu release on the same day of its Tamil version. His last outing, PS Mithran's Hero, was dubbed and released in Telugu as Shakthi, a few months after its release in Tamil.
The star has moved on to Ayalaan and Don much earlier, while Nelson is busy with Vijay-starrer Beast, the shooting of which is currently going on at a brisk pace. Anirudh scores music for Doctor, which has cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan and editing by R Nirmal. Tollywood actor Priyanka Arul Mohan makes her Tamil debut with the movie which has Yogi Babu, Milind Soman, Ilavarasu, Vinay Rai and Arun Alexander among others playing crucial roles.
