Paramount Pictures have released the first official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the sequel to the 2020 movie Sonic the Hedgehog, which is based on the popular video game.
The trailer also shows Dr. Robotnik, now known as Dr. Eggman, played by Jim Carrey, returns from the mushroom planet in search of an all powerful gem that could destroy planets. He also brings with him Knuckles the echidna, played by Idris Elba.
Sonic also teams up with Tails played by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, a new friend who helps the blue hedgehog as he sets out to find the Chaos Emerald, before it reaches the destructive hands of Dr. Eggman.
While Ben Schwartz returns to playing Sonic in the sequel, James Marsden as Tom, Tika Sumpter as Maddie, Adam Pally as Wade, Natasha Rothwell as Rachel and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone are other actors in the sequel.
While the movie is also the introduction of Idris Elba’s Knuckles, who seem to have the upper hand over Sonic with his powers, Shemar Moore will also appear in the movie in an undisclosed role.
From Sonic eating Chili dogs and taking on robbers to Tails’ iconic Tornado biplane, which was used by the duo in the games, the movie will have some iconic elements from the video game franchise.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to hit theatres on April 8, 2022 in the United States as confirmed by the trailer.
