Samrat Prithviraj is gearing up to hit the big screen in a week. The film stars Akshay Kumar as the titular king, while Sonu Sood essays the role of the king’s right hand man, Chand Bardai. Sood recently opened up about playing the historical figure on screen.

In conversation with PTI, Sood said that he was ‘instantly’ excited when the film’s script came to him. The actor revealed that his late mother had told him many tales of Chand Bardai. In addition to the ‘excitement’ he felt to bring the story to the big screen, Sood said that he also felt a sense of responsibility as well. The actor remarked that the film’s cast and crew had ‘left no stone unturned’ to do the role justice.

The actor talked about how he had been ‘inspired’ after listening to stories of Chand Bardai, and said that he had never thought he would get an opportunity to play the role. “I wish my mother was alive to see this as she would have been able to see whether I did it correctly or not," he said.

Regarding the character’s look, Sood revealed that it took about 3-4 hours for him to get ready and how difficult it was to keep the look intact while filming action sequences. The actor also added that playing historical characters involved a very important responsibility on the actors’ parts, as audiences were very ‘smart’ and ‘well-read’. Actors had to ‘do their homework right’ and not just show up on sets in the right costumes and say their lines.

The Chandraprakash Dwivedi directorial is produced by Yash Raj Films, and will be released in theatres on June 3.
