Sony has picked up the novel The Devil Takes You Home, penned by Gabino Iglesias, for the screen. According to a Deadline report, the project will be adapted and helmed by Cuban filmmaker Alejandro Brugues. Alex Rosario will serve as the executive producer on the project.
More details into the project and its storyline are still awaited. It is also reported that the rights to the book were secured by Sony in a competitive situation.
The novel revolves around Mario, who is left with no choice than being a hitman to cover his family’s bills. He is also down with issues like his daughter’s medical condition. As the story progresses, the man could be seen put under an offer which will either end his poverty forever or pierce a bullet into his skull.
Iglesias' thriller novel has received wide acclaim, and the writer being a journalist, professor and literary critic, has gained many achievements too. It is also to be noted that he has authored some highly acclaimed novels like Zero Saints and Coyote Songs, which has lined up for many nominations including Bram Stoker Award, Locus Award and the Wonderland Book Award. Coyote Songs has won the Wonderland Book Award as well.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Bruges is known for the series Dusk Till Dawn and has recently donned the director’s hat for the thriller The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy. He also has a segment The Thing in the Woods from 2018’s Nightmare Cinema, Juan of the Dead and Personal Belongings, to his credit.
