Venkat Prabhu's political thriller Maanaadu, which has hit the screens today, has opened to positive reviews from critics as well as the audience. Movie lovers say that the film is the much-needed comeback for Venkat Prabhu and Silambarasan who play the lead in it. The latter's performance, along with SJ Suryah's, has been garnering appreciation from cinephiles.
Yuvan Shankar Raja's background score and Praveen KL's editing are other aspects of the movie which have been receiving rave reviews ever since the time-loop thriller's first show was completed.
On Thursday evening, Suresh Kamatchi, the producer of Maanaadu, had officially announced that the movie has been postponed again due to unavoidable circumstances, making movie buffs disheartened. However, the last minute discussions its makers initiated with a few concerned parties, changed the film's fate with regard to its theatrical release.
In a few hours' time, director Venkat Prabhu and SJ Suryah took to their social media accounts to announce the movie will release as per earlier plans. However, the shows which were scheduled at 5 am across Tamil Nadu were cancelled, leaving the fans disappointed. After clearing the financial issues, the movie started screening around 8 am.
According to various sources, SonyLIV has bagged the digital rights of the movie. It is also said that Kalaignar TV has bagged its satellite rights. Maanaadu is likely to have an OTT premiere in the fourth week of December. An official update on the same is expected in a couple of week's time, though. Kasada Tabara, which was bankrolled by Venkat Prabhu, also had a premiere on SonyLIV a few months ago.
