Rishav Basu started his acting journey on stage. In 2007, he joined Debesh Chattopadhyay’s Sansriti. He worked in popular productions including Chetana’s Rani Creusa and Natadha’s Mahabharat. Later the actor got busy with films and web series. After a gap of five years, Rishav is gearing up with a brand new production, Andhokarer Utsho Hote. Directed by Avignan Bhattacharya, the play also features actress Aishwarya Sen, Rick Deb, and others. The rehearsals are in full swing and the play will be premiered on November 26, at Kala Kunj.

Talking about getting back on stage, Rishav said, “My attachment to theatre started with Bratya Basu’s Winkle Twinkle in 2002-03 when I used to move sets on stage. Later I joined Sansriti. The theatre has made me an actor. However, I had to take a break from the theatres after Rani Creusa and Mahabharat. After constantly working on web series and films, I started feeling that I wasn’t being able to evolve as an actor. In films and web series, you work on a tight schedule, you don’t get the time to live with the character. In fact, I was getting offers of plays but I was waiting for the right one. One day Avignan – a dear friend from childhood and a theatre personality – called. He depicted the play over the phone. Even then I did not know that he was about to offer me the lead role. I told him that I liked and he offered me the job,” remembered Rishav.

Rishav worked in important web series, including Mahabharat Murders, Srikanto, and Kumudini Bhavan. Later, he worked on four feature films. In one of the films directed by Sayantan Ghosal, Rishav plays the character of Sharalakkho Holm – a take on Sherlock Holmes. Besides, he worked with Ditipriya Roy, Sean Banerjee, Ananya Chatterjee, and others.
