Direction is not new to actor and popular TV host/judge Srujan Lokesh. He has, after all, helmed hundreds of episodes of his talk show, Majaa Talkies, over the years. Since the pandemic, he and his family members have also been doing regular skits for their YouTube channel. A full-fledged feature film, though, is a first for Srujan and he’s taken that step with a horror comedy called GST that will be in theatres on November 28, 2025.

GST, short for Ghosts in Trouble, is a horror comedy, the basic plot of which came to the debutant filmmaker in a dream. Developed over time into a fleshed-out script, the film boasts an interesting star cast including Niveditha Gowda, Ravishankar Gowda, Sharath Lohithashwa, Giri Shivanna, Rajani Bharadwaj, Girija Lokesh, Tabla Nani, Mahantesh Hiremath, Sukruth Srujan Lokesh, among others. Srujan’s son Sukruth is the fourth generation actor in the family, beginning with late Subbaiah Naidu, Lokesh, Srujan and then the youngster. Ahead of the theatrical release, Srujan recently released a trailer to give audiences a glimpse into what is in store.
Srujan is the leading man in this ensemble comedy, a character desperate to commit suicide, until love and a bunch of friendly ghosts make an entry into his life. Speaking at the trailer launch, Srujan said that he makes no tall claims about his directorial debut and awaits the audience’s verdict on the quality of the film. “There are times when small films with relatively unknown casts and crews win at the box office, while those that come with great expectations, fail to create waves. It is impossible to put a finger on what will appeal to audiences. So, all I want to tell them is that GST is a sincere attempt at presenting an entertainer,” he said.

Srujan added, “The only intention of making this film is to make audiences laugh, because that is what I do best. Of course, doing a comedy show for TV is a different ball game and directing a feature film is not easy. I have whole new level of respect for directors and, more importantly, actor-directors.” The actor-filmmaker also said that he took up the responsibility of direction and acting because he was not sure if another actor would follow the vision he had for the film.
