STAR first single College Superstars is a nostalgia-inducing tribute to Rajinikanth

Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj on Tuesday unveiled the first single from the upcoming movie STAR, which features Bigg Boss Tamil fame Kavin in the lead. The release of the song titled College Superstars was timed to coincide with the 73rd birthday celebration of Superstar Rajinikanth. 

Set against the college background in the 90s, the video of College Superstars is filled with a strong sense of nostalgia. And the song also pays a rich tribute to the most influential pop-cultural force of the time — Rajinikanth. 

The song shows Kavin's character as a die-hard fan of Rajinikanth and he spends most of his waking hours in cinemas, losing himself in its magic, at the expense of his college education. Even though the song is primarily dedicated to Rajinikanth's enduring legacy, it also pays tribute to the entire Tamil cinema and its far-reaching influence on the minds of young people.

The song is filled with words of wisdom, asking young people to make the most of their youth by living on their own terms. 

While College Superstars is written by lyricist Madhan Karky, the song is composed and sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

STAR is written and directed by Elan. Besides Kavin, the film also stars Lal, Aaditi Pohankar, Preity Mukhundhan and Geetha Kailasam. 

Based on the teasers and posters so far, it seems STAR follows an ambitious youngster and his journey to becoming a film star.
