Netflix has sweetened the new year by dropping a Code Red alert for all Stranger Things fans. Season 5 of the beloved sci-fi thriller has finally begun production, with the shoot commencing in a studio in Atlanta. The filming was supposed to begin in June 2023, but had to be pushed back due to the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of Hollywood.

To commemorate the joyous occasion, Netflix posted a new photo along with an update on Instagram. The picture featured and further confirmed all the beloved Stranger Things characters who are returning for the show’s final edition.

The black and white photo with the glowing, red 5 at the back was such a creative move by the Tudum site, as it sub-textually contrasted the 1980s period with the neon glow of the gory Upside Down, ruled by Vecna.

Also, as Season 5 will be the nail in the coffin for such a fan-favorite show, the red glow seems ominous and appropriate, reminding one of the dangers that approaches the fate of Hawkins and its inhabitants.

Season 4 of Stranger Things ended with a massive earthquake, caused by the Upside Down, that cracked the streets and houses of Hawkins, while a resilient Joyce, Hopper, Eleven, and the rest look on the mayhem, after a tearful reunion.

Since Season 4 had featured multiple heartbreaking deaths as well as estrangements, the momentary reprieve of the reunion did nothing but serve as the calm before the real storm that awaits the protectors of the little town.

The show will see Millie Bobby Brown return as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Natalia Dyer as Nancy, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin, Noah Schnapp as Will, Sadie Sink as Max, Joe Keery as Steve, Maya Hawke as Robin, David Harbour as Hopper, Winona Ryder as Joyce, and Jamie Campbell Bower as One/Vecna. There is no release date as of yet for Season 5 of Stranger Things, but it is speculated to be early 2025.
