Su from So on OTT: Raj B Shetty-JP Thuminad’s hit comedy to drop on THIS platform?

Su from So, the JP Thuminad directorial that has literally been taking the Kannada box office by storm since its July 25, 2025 theatrical release, had not finalized its post-theatrical rights before hitting movie halls. Actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty, whose Lighter Buddha Films produced the film, had kept the making of the film so tightly under wraps, barring an initial social media post about its muhurtha, and began limited promotions with only days to go for its theatrical outing. In a pre-release media briefing, when asked about the OTT sales of Su from So, Raj had said that discussions were ongoing, but that no deal had been finalized.

Raj B Shetty: Kannada films have only 1 option for OTT

Even as audiences are making a beeline for movie halls, they are also curious about which platform will pick up the streaming rights of Su From So. During the pre-release press briefing about Su From So, Raj had said that Kannada cinema has only 1 available option, as far as OTT goes, and that the discussions for an outright sale were ongoing, which, he hoped would be fruitful. While he did not mention the platform, Kannada audiences are aware that he was talking about Amazon Prime Video, given that Netflix does not take Kannada content as a policy; Z5 has not bought any since last year’s Max, Sony LIV’s last Kannada film was Raj’s Toby, while JioCinema is, reportedly, acquiring content, but yet to release any.

Raj’s directorial debut Ondu Motteya Kathe is on Prime Video, as also his last, Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, as well as an anthology that he presented, Roopanthara. It is, therefore, speculated that Prime Video will be the destination for Su From So, especially now that the film has become such a roaring success. Whether or not Z5 or Sony LIV will come into the picture now remains to be seen, given that Raj’s Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana went to the former and Sony LIV was rumoured to be in talks with the actor-filmmaker about doing an original web series for the platform.

The film, however, is unlikely to make its way to an OTT platform soon, given that it is set to release in other centres (with dubbed versions), in the coming days. The Malayalam version releases on August 1, followed by Telugu a week later. The Hindi distribution rights have just been formalized, so that will also happen soon. Amid all of this, the overseas release is also yet to begin.
