The highest grossing Kannada film of 2025 so far, Su From So, is still in theatres and registering a handful of fast-filling shows, in its 7thweek, but it is now time for it to head to OTT. The JP Thuminad directorial, produced by actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty, was widely reported to be available on OTT as of September 5, but this was not confirmed by the streamer or the film team. Still, there was hope that it would drop on the said date, but that was not to be.
However, early the next day, the much-awaited confirmation came – Su From So will begin streaming on JioHotstar (also via OTTplay Premium) on September 9, making it the first Kannada film to be on the platform since the JioCinema and Hotstar merger. Kannada filmmakers have been eagerly waiting for word on content from the industry being picked by the streamer and the debut of Su From So comes as good news. However, it remains to be seen what the criteria is for JioHotstar to acquire Kannada films, considering that Su From So is a massive box office hit.

Made at a humble budget of around Rs 4.5 crore, with another one to one and a half crore spent on promotions and release-related expenses, Su From So has amassed a massive 121 crore world wide in its 6 week-odd theatrical run. The film’s box office figure has mostly come from Karnataka, while Kerala also chipped in with Rs 6-7 cr with the Malayalam dubbed version. A Telugu version also went to theatres, but did not find as much favour with audiences, although the stray reviews that came from the industry were encouraging.
The film stars JP Thuminad in the lead, along with Shaneel Gautham, Sandhya Arekere, Raj B Shetty, Mime Ramadas, Deepak Rai Panaje, Prakash Thuminad and Pushparaj Bolar, among others. It follows JP’s character Prakasha and the events that play out after he claims to be possessed.
