Su From So, the blockbuster Kannada comedy directed by JP Thuminad that actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty produced and acted in is, according to reports, set for an OTT outing. The film, which has continued drawing crowds including the 6th weekend over August 23 and 24 registered its lowest footfalls and collections on August 25, Monday (Rs 0.3 cr) , prompting speculation that the theatrical run may end soon.
Su From So headed to JioHotstar on...
This was further fuelled by reports that Raj and team had sold the OTT and satellite rights to JioHotstar and Colors Kannada, respectively. At the time, OTTplay had reached out to Raj to verify these reports and he’d stated that no deal had been finalized. Industry trackers, though, are emphatic that the OTT rights are, indeed, with JioHotstar and that the streamer even has a date set for Su From So. It’s said that Su From So will be available to stream from September 5 on JioHotstar (via OTTplay Premium as well).

OTTplay attempted to verify this with Raj, but the actor-filmmaker, who was in the UAE recently for meet-and-greet events with audiences as part of the team’s thanksgiving tour remained unavailable for comment until the time of publication. The platform is also yet to confirm any development with regard to Su From So.

Prior to the theatrical outing of the film, when Raj was asked about its pre-release business, he had said that no deal had been finalized and that discussions were on with the only avenue available to Kannada cinema. This, of course, was assumed to be Amazon Prime Video, where most Kannada films end up, either on revenue sharing or rental basis. Raj’s co-production with Ramya’s Applebox Studios, Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye had landed on Prime Video, as also the anthology Roopanthara, which he acted in and presented in theatres.
Raj’s earlier production ventures, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana and Toby , are on Z5 and Sony LIV respectively, with the latter platform also, having negotiated a web series deal with the actor-filmmaker. Raj had recently said that he’s written a script, but that there’s been no further development.
During a recent press briefing of the upcoming Kannada web series Shodha, representatives from Z5 had said that the platform would actively be acquiring Kannada films in the days to come. It’s last was Kiccha Sudeep’s 2024 Christmas release Max. Z5 has not picked up any 2025 film yet, although there were reports that Vinnod Prabhakar’s Maadeva was headed to the streamer.
JioHotstar, meanwhile, has been acquiring Kannada films sporadically, but is yet to release any that it has picked up. Will Su From So open the floodgates?
