Su From So’s Raj B Shetty has one request for audiences: ‘Please don’t expect us to…’

Su From So, as actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty describes, is a film that hardly anyone knew of a few weeks before it hit theatres. Raj and his team had gone ahead and made a film without much hullabaloo, then went about introducing it to audiences with a hit song, a trailer that grabbed eyeballs and then, a series of paid premieres to get word-of-mouth going. They barely did any promotional interviews and let the content do the talking – a strategy that worked brilliantly for them.

Su From So grosses Rs 100 crore in Karnataka

Su From So became a runaway hit in Karnataka, and was then dubbed in Malayalam, where it received widespread praise. The Kannada version of the film has grossed Rs 100 crore in a little over a month, making it the highest grossing film of Sandalwood in 2025 so far. As a token of gratitude to the audiences who made the film such a big success, Raj and the team, including director-actor JP Thuminad have been key visiting locations in the state and outside too.

Most recently, the team of Su From So was in the UAE, where they had meet-and-greet events in Dubai and Abu Dhabi with audiences. Speaking at the event, Raj, said that he had only one request for them, “Please don’t expect us to make films like Su From So again. The minute we start making similar films, we will end up chasing a success formula. I think that would be the downfall of the industry. So, what we want to do is to try something new with every cinema, in the hope that audiences will continue to support us.”

Raj added that the easiest way forward for them would be to make a sequel to the film, which would be commercially viable. “But none of us on this team are businessmen. Today, a former security Guard Raj B Shetty is a filmmaker- actor, JP Thuminad, a painter, is an actor-filmmaker, salesman Shaneel Gautham is a writer and actor - cinema has given us enough. So, we seek your license, to be free, to be crazy and not let us follow a pattern,” Raj added.
