Subham marks the debut of Samantha Ruth Prabhu as a producer in Telugu cinema. She backed a project featuring all new faces and a one-film-old director. The horror comedy received rave reviews but started on a dismal note at the box office, collecting less than Rs 60 lakhs on day one.
However, Samantha, being the star she is, sprang into action and aggressively promoted the film, eventually making profits by the end of Subham's theatrical run.
Now, the low-budget film is all set to stream on JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar from June 13, 2025, and there is considerable hype as not many watched the film in theaters due to the absence of familiar faces.
Ahead of the film’s OTT release, we’ve learned that the streaming version will include a few deleted scenes that were left out of the theatrical cut. Samantha played a cameo in the film, and reports suggest that scenes related to her character’s background and a fun episode have been added to the final version.
This development has piqued interest, as Subham’s script and tone are a perfect fit for the OTT audience. This time, the film is targeting family viewers, and the makers believe a wider section of the audience will stream and appreciate the film’s humor and message.
Directed by Praveen Kandregula of Mail fame, the film revolves around women getting possessed while watching a TV show at 9 PM every day. The mystery unfolds through an intriguing narrative packed with a powerful social message for women.
Samantha produced the film on a budget of close to Rs 10 crore, and Subham earned just over Rs 20 crore by the end of its theatrical run. As it turned out to be a solid profit-making venture, Samantha is now set to produce more low-budget films in the future.
It remains to be seen how the film fares on OTT when it premieres on June 13, 2025. For now, the addition of deleted scenes is generating further buzz.
