Subhash Ghai, who recently spoke about the reason he quit making Hindi movies, is now geared up for his Bollywood comeback. The filmmaker will be back in the industry after nearly a decade. Although Ghai worked as a producer till 2022, he has not made his directorial comeback since 2014. His last movie to release was Kaanchi.
Ghai has delivered some of the biggest musicals in the 90s. While hinting that the modern cinema lacks storytelling through music, he has promised to bring that back with the help of his production house. The filmmaker told Game Changers, "In our time, when we had even bigger musical hits, there was only one difference: I considered music as poetry. For me, Anand Bakshi was even greater than Laxmikant Pyarelal and Rahman. I used to write the spoken dialogue in the movie, and you [Anand Bakshi] were writing the singing dialogues. And when we wrote the 'antara' (stanza), it felt like he knew my story better than I did."
His production house has already declared that they are looking for writers who understand pan cinema worldwide. Yes, the filmmaker is not just limiting himself to pan-India but looking at pushing his cinema at a global scale.
Needless to say, Subhash Ghai has given us works of art before taking a break from Bollywood. Earlier this week, the filmmaker revealed that the culture of sharing scripts on email and Whatsapp is what pushed him away from the industry. Nonetheless, the mastermind behind classics like Pardes, Khal Nayak and Taal (all available for streaming on Zee5 via OTTplay Premium) is making a comeback. Will the good times also come back with this? Time will tell the tale.
