Subramaniapuram holds a special place in the history of Tamil cinema. The movie, which marked the directorial debut of Sasikumar, is considered a cult blockbuster that went on to become a trendsetter. Sasikumar himself played the lead role in the film along with Jai and Swathi.

Samuthirakani and Ganja Karuppu among others, too, essayed notable characters in the project which has chartbuster songs by James Vasanthan, editing by Raja Mohammad and cinematography by SR Kathir. The film celebrated its 15th anniversary a month ago. Sasikumar had taken to his social media page to thank the media, the cast and crew, and the audience.

The makers have now decided to re-release Subramaniapuram on the occasion of the film having celebrated an extraordinary feat. They have come up with a new trailer of the film as well ahead of its re-release that is happening on August 4.

The movie was also in the news recently when the cast of the forthcoming film Nanban Oruvan Vantha Piragu recreated the iconic poster of the film. The gangster drama has been the inspiration for many other films that were released later, including Bollywood movie Gangs of Wasseypur.

Its director Anurag Kashyap has often heaped praise on the Sasikumar directorial on how it motivated him as a filmmaker and a storyteller. Interestingly, Sasi has helmed only one movie after Subramaniapuram. He had announced some time ago that he will be back with a directorial venture soon.

Billed as a gangster drama set in a rural backdrop in Madurai, the highlight of Subramaniapuram was the performances of its lead actors and taut screenplay that made the audience hooked to their seats.
