The actor-voice artiste is also excited to present the show in Delhi – where he once worked and lived.
Multidisciplinary artiste and actor Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee is all set to travel to Delhi with his curated bouquet of world poetry and Tagore songs. The event, Confluence, will take place at India Habitat Centre on August 20. While he will read out poems by the world’s some of the most acknowledged poets, Rabindrasangeet vocalist Srovonti Basu Bandyopadhyay will present the songs.
Earlier, Sujoy presented the show thrice in Kolkata and once in the UK. In Kolkata, he presented it in collaboration with Srabani Sen, and in the UK, filmmaker Sangeeta Dutta teamed up with him.
Elaborating on the event, Sujoy said, “Confluence is a work-in-progress production of exploring global poetry in a blend of Rabindranath Tagore's songwriting. The chosen poetries in this show are Kahlil Gibran, Pablo Neruda, Elizabeth Bishop, Federico García Lorca, Taha Muhammad Ali, and many others. These poets have penned their poems at different timezones and their politics are intrinsically different from each other. What the verses find in Rabindrasangeet is a perceptive integration in ethos. That makes the project unique and a bit intriguing too.”
The actor-voice artiste is also excited to present the show in Delhi – where he once worked and lived. “This is my first show in Delhi – a city which has always embraced me like an old lover. This production is an integration of the universalism that Tagore espoused through his global work,” he said.
After his work in Belashuru, Sujoy has worked in a number of films, including Shohorer Ushnotomo Dine. His new film, Nikhonj, is yet to release. Directed by Aranyak Chatterjee, the film will also feature Ridhima Ghosh and Soham Chakraborty. The multidisciplinary artiste will play a character of many shades. Meanwhile, Sujoy will also work with Sohag Sen on a theatre production.
