Sultan of Delhi: Tahir Raj Bhasin and Mouni Roy give intimate insights into their characters

Mouni Roy, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Vinay Pathak, and Nishant Dahiya are gearing up for the release of their upcoming Disney+ Hotstar web series, Sultan of Delhi. This series that is directed by Milan Luthria is about a power-hungry man named Arjun Bhatia (Tahir Raj Bhasin) who navigates his way through the Delhi underworld to emerge victorious and earn the title of Sultan of Delhi.

In a recent interaction, Mouni and Tahir spoke about how they prepared for their roles and what excited them about their part.

When asked about his role in Sultan of Delhi, Tahir said he was excited to be transported to the 60s, with vintage clothes and cars. He also spoke about his experience of working with director Milan Luthria, saying that he was very precise about what he wanted from the character.

“We have grown up seeing his (Milan’s) work and the things that he specialises in is his style and that was very interesting for me. I wanted all those vintage jackets, vintage cars, and watches to all contribute to making a character. So for me, that was very exciting. It was great to work with Milan sir because he was very precise about what he wanted. He wanted Arjun Bhatia’s body language to be in a certain way. He wanted Arjun to be completely different from Tahir. After working on the series for a year, it took me about two months to stop walking like Arjun Bhatia! So, creating this interesting dynamic, multifaceted character, and entering the glamorous world of 60s was very exciting for me,” said Tahir.

Mouni Roy on the preparation for her role

When Mouni Roy was asked about how she prepared for her role, she revealed that she was secretly hoping to get the role of Nayantara, as the journey of the character really excited her. “When they told me about Nayantara, I was secretly hoping for them to cast me. The way the character thinks, behaves, and the ways she navigates her life is something that really attracted me. When you read the book Sultan of Delhi, anyone would want to be a part of that world. So, I am very happy that I got the part,” said Mouni.

Speaking about the web series, director Milan Luthria had said recently, “Sultan of Delhi is my first web series. Set in the sexy 60s, it has a timeless, pacy approach filled with elements of glamour, action, music, punchy one liners and entertainment. This multi-starrer traces the journey of Arjun Bhatia and explores a tale of greed, betrayal, courage and the ultimate fight for power.”

Sultan of Delhi, directed by Milan Luthria, is a nine-episode-long series based on the book Sultan of Delhi: Ascension by Arnab Ray. Produced by Reliance Entertainment, it stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Anjumm Shharma, Vinay Pathak, and Nishant Dahiya in pivotal roles, alongside Anupriya Goenka, Mouni Roy, Harleen Sethi, and Mehreen Pirzada in supporting roles. It will be available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar starting October 13.
