Disney+ Hotstar has just greenlit its fourth Malayalam web series this year! The latest series that will be streaming on the platform later this year has Kasaba and Kaaval director Nithin Renji Panicker at the helm with Suraj Venjaramoodu attached to play the lead.

While Suraj had made his OTT debut with Kaanekkaane in 2021, this project will mark his debut web series. Apart from Suraj, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Grace Antony, Shweta Menon, Prashanth Alexander, Niranjana Anoop and Kani Kusruti are also part of the cast.

The series, which is scripted and directed by Nithin, will have a humour-oriented story and will go on floors in Kannur next month, as per a report on Can Channels. Kasargode, Palakkad, Alappuzha and Palani are also the other locations of the web series, which is expected to wrap up its shoot in a single schedule of 40 days.

Earlier this year, Rahul Riji Nair and Ahammed Khabeer’s Kerala Crime Files: Shiju, Parayil Veedu, Neendakara was announced as the first ever Malayalam web series to be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The team had released the trailer of the police procedural, which has Aju Varghese and Lal essaying the lead roles. The series is expected to begin streaming from June this year.

Nikhila Vimal and Sunny Wayne have also wrapped up the shoot of their comedy web series, which is scripted by Deepu Pradeep and helmed by debutant Praveen Chandran. Last week, another web series went on floors, titled 1000+ Babies.

The latter, which has Rahman and Neena Gupta in the lead, is produced by August Cinemas and is helmed by Najeem Koya. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, its co-producer Shaji Natesan told us, “Currently, the plan is to wrap up the shoot in 90 days because we have 93 locations. We have taken it as a challenge to make it better than a movie and release it as one of the best series from the South.”
