TJ Gnanavel's Jai Bhim attracted film buffs from the time the project was titled. Its teaser and trailer piqued the curiosity of movie lovers. The film, which had a direct release on Amazon Prime Video, started streaming on the platform from November 2. Starring Suriya as a lawyer for the first time, the project's story revolved around a real incident.
Jai Bhim touched upon the discrimination which the have-nots in the society face from several quarters. Set in 1995, it also threw light on the intensity of police brutality in the country.
The film, which garnered unanimous positive response from critics and the audience, courted controversies, too, after a political outfit threatened the filmmaker and Suriya of dire consequences for allegedly portraying inaccurate things. However, many from the Tamil movie industry came forward and extended support for Suriya and Gnanavel.
Jai Bhim was also in the news for being the highest user rated film on IMDb, surpassing the likes of The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather. Now, the movie has added another rare feather to its cap.
The film has become the most searched Indian film on Google in 2021. It doesn't come as a surprise given the accolades the movie garnered even after a month of its release. Jai Bhim went on to enjoy international recognition as many film critics from other countries had expressed their liking for the movie on their social media pages.
Vijay-starrer Master is another Tamil film which has found place in the list of top 10 most searched Indian films on Google. Interestingly, five among the 10 movies (Jai Bhim, Master, Drishyam 2, Shershah and Bell Bottom) are streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
