The theatrical release of Suriya-starrer Etharkkum Thunindhavan was announced as February 4 a while ago by Sun Pictures, which is bankrolling the film. The Pandiraj-directorial is the actor's theatrical release after a hiatus of two and a half years. His last film which had hit the screens was KV Anand's Kaappaan (streaming on Amazon Prime Video).

Suriya's last two releases, the critically acclaimed Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim, had direct-to-OTT releases on Amazon Prime Video in 2020 and 2021 respectively. With the rise in Omicron cases, fans of the star are eagerly waiting to know if the makers of Etharkkum Thunindhavan will announce a postponement on its release.

Meanwhile, it is heard that the family drama has been censored with an U/A certificate. The censor certificate of the film has been doing the rounds on social media from morning. Going by the same, the movie will have a run time of 150 mins.

The makers had released three singles from the project till now, and movie lovers are waiting to know if there are more songs in the album. Imman has composed music for the film which has cinematography by Rathnavelu. Priyanka Arul Mohan essays the female lead while Sathyaraj, MS Bhaskar, Saranya Ponvannan and Soori among others will be seen playing key roles.

The makers of Etharkkum Thunindhavan had planned to release the film simultaneously in five languages in theatres, but now it has to be seen if they will stick on to it. His last theatrical release Kaappaan was released as Bandobast in Telugu.

Though Pandiraj and Suriya had teamed up earlier for Pasanga 2 (streaming on Zee5) and Kadaikutty Singam (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), this is the first time the latter is seen as a full-fledged hero under the former's direction.
