TJ Gnanavel's Jai Bhim has been in the news ever since it started streaming on Amazon Prime Video from November. The Suriya-starrer, which was critically acclaimed upon its release, received positive response from the audience as well. The film was in the news a couple of days ago when a video clip from it was featured in Oscars' YouTube channel.

After the first-of-its-kind honour for a Tamil movie, the film which is based on real incidents, was selected for screening at Noida International Film Festival. Before the makers ended celebrating another feather in the film's cap, it has now accomplished a new feat.

The movie is now officially a part of the 276 films shortlisted for the prestigious 94th Academy Award nominations. The social media handle of Suriya's 2D Entertainment which bankrolled the project, announced the exciting news to the movie buffs. It also has the official link to the list of shortlisted 276 films.

Under Jai Bhim's title, the names of actors Suriya, Lijomol Jose, Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, Prakash Raj, Baby Joshika Maya, Rao Ramesh, Tamilarasan, Guru Somasundaram, Jayaprakash and MS Baskaran, who played notable characters in it have been mentioned. Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is another Indian film which has managed to find a place in the list.

The nomination voting is expected to begin on January 27 and is expected to conclude on February 1. The nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced on February 8. The much-awaited 94th Oscars ceremony will be held on March 27.

Last year, another film of Suriya, Soorarai Pottru, helmed by Sudha Kongara, was chosen for Oscars 2021 under various categories. It was the only Indian film among 366 movies which were considered eligible for Best Film in the Academy Awards. However, the movie which premiered on Amazon Prime Video missed out on getting a nomination.
