In October last year, actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty and actress Ramya had announced their first-ever collaboration, Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, which she would produce as the first venture under her Applebox Studios. The plan was to also have the film be her comeback to acting as well, but after much deliberation, Ramya decided against it, as she felt that the role was a better fit for a relatively newer face. Letting go of the role was not easy, she had told us, was not an easy decision.
“I read the script multiple times before taking that call, because I was giving up on a really good role. But then I felt that it is the film that is important. I can’t be selfish as an actor and insist that I do it. I listed the reasons I felt this was not a role for me, based on elements in the script, and once Raj heard me out, he also agreed,” Ramya had told us, adding that it is only then that Raj suggested Siri Ravikumar for the film.
The film was shot in Ooty last year in under 20 years and has been described by Ramya as a poetic love story. Raj, who then moved on to make his next, Toby, had told us that that he believes Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye is a good fit for a direct-to-OTT outing. However, it seems that the film will have to take the theatrical route after all, as major streaming platforms have not been investing on outright purchases of Kannada films, which Ramya had highlighted at a media conference that she was invited to. In the months since, though, there was no news on the film, until today, when the official social media handle of the production house posted a behind-the-scenes video of Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye’s making, the caption of which included #SeeYouAtTheMovies.
While a release date was not mentioned, netizens were quick to offer suggestions, asking Ramya to release the film in November as no major film is lined up then.
