In just over a week, Kannada actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty’s Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye will be in theatres. Distributed by KRG Studios, the film is Kannada cinema’s Queen Bee Ramya’s debut production venture under her AppleBox Studios. Filmed just over a year ago in a single schedule in Ooty, the film, according to Raj, was a perfect recipe for a straight-to-OTT outing, which he has been vocal about. But it seems that this was not an option for the makers, owing to which it is now coming to theatres on November 24. In the run-up to the release, the trailer of the film will come out on November 17 at 6.45 pm.

Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye is a film that Raj had initially written as a comeback vehicle for Ramya. The character of Prerana, which was eventually done by Siri Ravikumar, was meant for Ramya, but days after announcing the same, she decided against it and got Raj to cast a fresher, newer face. Ramya then took up Dhananjaya’s gangster flick Uttarakaanda as her comeback film. Following the making of Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, Raj barely ever spoke about, choosing instead to focus on his film Toby, which he said was a by-product of the rage he felt following certain personal experiences.

The buzz in industry circles has been that all’s not well between Raj and Ramya, fuelled largely by the actor-filmmaker’s thinly veiled jibes about what drove him to making Toby. The fact that the official social media handle of AppleBox Studios was also dropping behind-the-scenes videos from the making of Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye at the height of the Toby promotions, none of which were shared by Raj or his team, was also seen as proof of discord between the director and the producer.

In fact, since announcing that Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye is coming to theatres on November 24, Raj has released a few social media posts for its promotions, which in comparison to the media overdrive he did for Toby is not even a tiny fraction.
