Taika Waiti has been roped in to write and direct the famous graphic novel The Incal from Alejandro Jodorowsky. The news, which was recently announced, has had the fans excited.
The news was announced by the Chilean-French filmmaker and novelist Alejandro Jodorowsky himself. The movie is produced by Humanoids, who has been the long running publisher of the novel.
The Jojo Rabbit director worked with longtime collaborators Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows) and Peter Warren (Ghost Team) to write the screenplay for the movie.
Jodorowsky, now in his 90's, tried to write a screenplay to adapt Frank Herbert's Dune as a movie, but was unsuccessful and wrote a screenplay that would have made a 14 hour movie.
He then worked with Moebius (Jean Giraud) and used the artwork from the script to work on The Incal.
The movie, as reported by Variety, will follow private investigator John Difool, who stumbles upon a powerful artifact called The Incal, which is wanted by many factions across the galaxy. As he learns its powers, he decides to save the universe with his crew.

Waiti has successfully wrapped the work on Thor: Love and Thunder and has a number of upcoming movies including live-action adaptations of Akira, Flash Gordon and a Star Wars movie.
