Though Prashanth Neel's Yash-starrer KGF: Chapter 2 had a massive hype across the country several months before its release, all eyes were on the Tamil Nadu box office as Vijay's Beast announced its arrival a day before. The theatrical release of Beast was acquired by Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies.
Many movie buffs were eagerly waiting to know if KGF 2 could withstand the heat of Beast if the latter opened to a unanimous positive response. However, what actually happened shocked the trade and industry insiders. Beast opened to mixed response because of which KGF 2 could take an advantage from day one of its release.
Though the five-day weekend helped Beast garner decent numbers at the box office, the situations started favouring KGF 2 as days passed. Many theatres in Tamil Nadu charted early morning shows like never before even on weekdays, making Rocky bhai a household name among all sections of audience in the state. As expected, many single screens replaced Beast with KGF 2, and bigger screens were allotted to the latter owing to huge demand.
Producer SR Prabhu, who bagged the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of the movie, took to Twitter to express happiness over the fact that the movie's collection on its 10th day of release surpassed the numbers it made on its first day. He also posted a new poster of the movie and tweeted, "#KGFChapter2 #Kgf2. Day10 collected more than Day1 City & Chengalpet is lit #RockyBhai is Unstoppable!!! (sic)."
With the multi-starrer flick Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal releasing on April 28, it has to be seen how far KGF 2 can collect from Tamil Nadu in the coming weeks. Sivakarthikeyan's Don is the next big release in Kollywood; the comic caper will hit the screens on May 13.
